Leaf patterning

1 comment:

  1. This leaf demonstrates numbers from the fibonacci sequence when you count the distinct veins. First, begin with the largest vein on the right side of the photo, which is counted as one. Next there are 5 veins of similar size which branch from the first. Then choose any one of the 5 branching veins, the first one at the bottom for example that crosses the photo diagonally to the left. Counting become trickier here because the photo does not show where the leaf ends but I speculate that the next veins in the same width grouping come out to be 34. Finally, the much smaller veins that are clustered more tightly are arranged in 2's and 3's which add up to 5 and depending on how you look at it also 8, 13 and 21.
